Who Wants to Be a Copywriter? Contest #6

The winner of the sixth "Who Wants to Be a Copywriter" contest was Elizabeth H. for her entry,

Remote Control.

The Assignment Was:

Data Store has decided to create a brochure for their new Remote Data Services offering. This is a service where companies access network file servers that are housed and maintained by Data Store, in their secure location, instead of housing these computers themselves. The benefits of using Data Store:

• Peace of mind knowing that your data is being maintained by experts
• Faster running applications since these experts can construct better networks than internal IT professionals

Your job was to write a headline for the brochure that communicated these benefits.

Elizabeth is a librarian at my sons' elementary school and well on her way to a new career in professional copywriting with this prestigious award under her belt. While I in no way meant to judge entries by how close they came to the way I solved these assignments when they were given by my clients, I find it a little freaky that Elizabeth actually submitted three headlines (imagine a librarian wantonly breaking contest rules like that) and 2 out of 3 of her entries were nearly identical to concepts I presented for the real assignment. While this solution was my favorite for its brevity and attitude. It was not the one my client chose. The actual client was The Rochester Group by the way and you can see my work in the portolfio under Corporate Communications. Elizabeth is being sent her Eddie Bauer gift certificate so she can round out her wardrobe with some copywriter-friendly flannel and Gore-Tex.
