The winner of the first "Who Wants to Be a Copywriter" contest was Jeff E. for his entry,

What Good is All That Power Without a Little Intelligence?

The assignment was:

Grey Goose Consulting has formed to provide business, human resource and Information Technology consulting to the Utility Industry. They need an ad to run in business trade journals announcing their formation and the benefits of working with them. These benefits include:

  • Insider knowledge of Utility Industry especially deregulation
  • Lower rates than the Big Six consulting firms
  • Wide breadth of services

Jeff is an intellectual property attorney for a major law firm in Philadelphia. His entry was chosen by the judges because he not only conveyed the idea of expertise in the utility industry, he did it with attitude and resisted the temptation to play off the company name. He stayed focused on emotions that would be important to the audience and spoke directly to them. Jeff's and all the other entries are below. 

Jeff will receive an e-gift certificate to Eddie Bauer that he can use online, in stores or over the phone to dress the part of the great copywriter he is...when he's not forced to wear pinstripes and wingtips.
